Mad World officially launches today following a two-tiered early access period that began last weekend. The release comes with a new update that unlocks additional story and the usual round of launch issues that developer Jandisoft is working on.
The 2D isometric dark MMORPG is a cross-platform release in HTML5, with a flexible class system and a whole lot of darkness and monsters to take on. The team has emphasized that there is a sense of hope to be found, and says that new story chapters will open up over time.
Today’s launch is adding Act 4 of the story, which had been playable through Act 3 in the early access period. Yet as with any game launch, there have been some serious launch issues. Some players in the community, according to the official Discord, are not receiving their confirmation emails.
There's a runninglist of known issues, and a dedicated notice that they will be updating the Black Market to stabilize and improve it in real time. Additionally, there is a running issue that certain boss monsters are not dropping items as expected, and another issue that equipment stats are not as expected. And if you hand over an item to an NPC during a quest, there is a chance that the item registered in the quick slot will also disappear.
In a press release about the launch, Jandisoft did mention that there would be events, but the long and extended maintenance seems to have delayed those announcements just a bit. Of course a stable launch is not impossible, but MMORPG launch issues aren’t surprising.
The team has also updated that there could be delays or even disconnection when moving maps, so they are continuing to work on stabilizing the game and to get things working the way that they need to.
