The new Forza Motorsport races our way in less than a month, and while the game may not be quite as big as Starfield, it definitely shouldn’t be overlooked by Xbox fans. A new round of info, previews, and footage has gone out today, and Turn 10 Studios’ latest is certainly looking impressive. First up, let’s check out a healthy chunk of new Forza Motorsport gameplay, showing off the rebuilt Maple Valley and Hakone Circuit, as well as the brand-new Grand Oak Raceway. While Forza Motorsport will obviously offer a range of visual options on PC (you can check out the game’s requirements here), new previews have revealed the visual options that will be available to those playing on Xbox Series X and S, and the choices are fairly exciting.
On Xbox Series X, Forza Motorsport will offer three visual modes – Performance (full 4K resolution and 60fps), Performance Ray Tracing (dynamic 4K, in-race ray tracing, and 60fps), and Visuals (full 4K resolution, in-race ray tracing, and 30fps). It’s unclear at this juncture what the native resolution will drop to on the Performance Ray Tracing mode – we probably won’t know until the pixel counters at Digital Foundry and the like get to work – but it’s exciting that this kind of mode is being offered at all. By comparison, Sony’s Gran Turismo 7 doesn’t even offer ray tracing during races.
Meanwhile, according to Video Games Chronicle, those playing on Xbox Series S will get a pair of visual modes, although neither of them feature ray tracing. While the details are slightly sketchy, Performance mode offers dynamic resolution and 60fps, while Quality mode is “maximum resolution” (presumably that means 4K) at 30fps.
