Baldur’s Gate 3’s much-anticipated Patch 3 is live now, bringing significant changes to the Dungeons & Dragons-themed role-playing game as well as the full release of the Mac version.
The patch notes are once again too big for Steam as they exceed the platform’s character limit. As such, the patch notes in full are on the Baldur’s Gate 3 website (beware spoilers!).
Developer Larian recommended Mac users fully uninstall the early access version of the game and remove any mods before installing the latest version to minimize potential compatibility issues. The minimum and recommended specs for Mac users have also been updated: Larian recommends an M1 Pro processor and FSR enabled to run the game at high or ultra settings on a Retina display.
Elsewhere, Patch 3 adds the Magic Mirror. “Tucked away in your camp, exuding a certain ‘we found this at a vintage fair and it’s too fancy for our current home’ energy, is an item called the Magic Mirror,” Larian explained. “Tales have been told of its legendary ability to permanently alter the appearance of one who gazes into it.”
The Magic Mirror lets you change up your appearance whenever you’d like, however many times you’d like. There are some restrictions: your appearance, voice, pronouns, and nether regions can be changed, but your race/subrace and body type cannot. Origin characters, hirelings and full illithids cannot use the Magic Mirror. Cosmetic modifications that are a consequence of your gameplay choices will persist. If you know, you know.
Crucially, performance is improved in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate. Baldur’s Gate 3 has some performance issues, particularly with Act 3 and in densely populated areas. “More to come!” Larian promised.
