Sea of Thieves is getting guilds in Season 10, along with new social and competitive ways to play. This and more was revealed today in a preview of the upcoming season, coming October 19th.
The arrival of guilds is the biggest social feature on the way and will allow you to form bonds with others beyond just your immediate crew. Any Captain that has a ship can start one and invite up to 24 players in the guild. A cap of 24 is intentional, and the guild feature allows for a collective but is also small enough so that you can know everyone who is in the guild.
Anyone can join a guild, and the Creator will be able to determine their name, model, and symbols. As a guild member, you can decide whether or not they want to pledge any (or all) of your captained ships to the guild. Doing so means that while you're offline, another guild member can use your ship and even make progress on your Captaincy Milestones. If someone takes your ship out, it will be exactly as you left it when you get back. Working together this way could even unlock guild rewards, earn reputation, and sometimes unlock personal rewards if someone hits a milestone for you.
In November, the Skull of Siren Song, the first competitive Voyage is coming. Participating crews compete to find a single treasure in a race against time. Every crew on the server will see the same treasure maps at the same time, setting up fierce competition. One map will lead you to a key and another map will lead you to a chest. Those two items will need to be combined for a Victorious crew to get their hands on the Skull of Siren Song. Those two items might even be held by different crews at the same time and even moved, setting up potential PVP clashes and unpredictability will rule
