Anthony Mackie's Captain America will make his first lead role appearance in Captain America: New World Order. While details about the movie are scarce, on-set photos have given fans a peak at what's in store for the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise.
Mackie first appeared as Sam Wilson, a.k.a Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Following Captain America's departure from the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame, Sam was tasked with taking up the Captain America mantle. The Disney Plus miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier explores how Sam struggles with taking on this responsibility and follows his journey to accepting his role as the new Captain America.
Captain America: New World Order Director Explained The Title's Meaning
Now, Mackie's Captain America is finally ready to take center stage. Filming for Captain America: New World Order began on March 20th and is scheduled to continue until June 30th. The first of what will surely be many behind-the-scenes pictures was posted shortly after filming began. While they don't reveal much about the movie's details, they feature Mackie on-set in what appears to be civilian clothing. Another set of pictures focuses on the set piece for Smyth's Diner, a location pulled from two issues of Captain America comics. In the comics, Smyth's Diner is set in Maryland; however, a jersey in one of the pictures suggests that the movie version of the diner is in West Virginia instead.
While it's unclear what Sam Wilson would be doing in a diner or West Virginia, some details about the movie have been confirmed. Shira Haas will be playing Sabra, an Israeli superhero who makes her MCU debut, and Harrison Ford will be taking over the role of Thaddeus «Thunderbolt»
