A new update for not only improved the award-winning RPG but also taught, a competing RPG, another big lesson in how games should be maintained. The Game of the Year winner at TGA 2023, developed by Larian Studios, was released in early August 2023. The title had been in early access for years before its release, which allowed it to be developed alongside notes and feedback from the community. was then released to critical acclaim, so much so that it sparked controversy when it was established as a new standard for the genre.
Approximately a month later, Bethesda released, a new open-world RPG set in space and the first new IP (intellectual property) the company created in 25 years. The title was highly awaited following its announcement back in 2018, as it was revealed this would be one of the first games created under the company’s new and improved Creation Engine 2. Because of their overlapping genres and the proximity of their release dates, at the time, and were compared to each other quite frequently, but months later, Larian’s RPG continues to teach Bethesda’s game some important lessons.
In mid-February, months after the game’s launch, Larian Studios released Patch 6. The special update, as implied by the name, is the sixth major patch added, but it does a lot more than simply fix bugs. In fact, aside from correcting minor errors within the game – which are understandable, considering the sheer size of the title – Patch 6 also brought forth a series of improvements and even playable content for players who are still exploring and reexploring the world of Faerûn. At the forefront of Patch 6 for are new kissing animations for romantic partners.
While the new set of kissing animations was the main focus of the update, as highlighted in the patch notes on the official website, there was more content added with Patch 6.
