All things are not equal in the world of’s companions with some getting significantly more love than others. With 10 potential companions to recruit, it’s hardly surprising that some have had a little more attention and care put into them than others. However, when the numbers are actually broken down, the discrepancies become staggeringly obvious, leaving some companions clear winners and others the losers.

The companions and characters of have contributed massively to the success of the game, with everyone having their favorite party members or NPC above all others. This, of course, is a reflection of the fantastic writing that went into each character, which was then brought to life with topnotch voice acting. However, that doesn’t mean that all the companions are treated equally, leaving some out in the cold in favor of others.
When examining and adding up the number of hours and scenes each companion has, it becomes glaringly obvious that Astarion and Shadowheart had a lot more attention given to them by developers Larian Studios than others such as Wyll and Karlach. The result is a fantastic time for those invested in the sneaky vampire rogue or Sharran cleric, but a deep feeling of disappointment for those looking for more Karlach or Wyll content. This is then compounded by personal quests and the level of detail in them, compared to other companions whose questlines end abruptly or are incredibly sparse.
To understand the bias shown toward particular companions or romance options in, it is helpful to know what data and content to analyze. Content quality can be a subjective matter, with each person interacting with it uniquely and therefore feeling differently about it based on their own emotions. So, a good place to start is by studying content length and frequency to begin to piece together an understanding of the discrepancies between the companions.
