Through players' adventures through the Forgotten Realms, the voice of the narrator, played by veteran actor Amelia Tyler, accompanies every major decision and moment in the story, chronicling every action and choice. While Tyler has earned plenty of praise for her performance, one of the most beloved content creators almost took on the role.
Speaking at the Game Developers Conference, per VG247, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke revealed that the creative team toyed with the idea of enlisting the vocal talents of Matt Mercer, an acclaimed voice actor and the Dungeon Master of the ever-popular series . The developer noted that in the early stages of the project, they considered offering players multiple DMs, all of whom would be voiced by different people, one of whom would be Mercer. That ultimately didn't come to pass due to the amount of effort it would have required but that didn't mean the actor was completely removed from the game.
While he may not serve as 's narrator, Mercer does still play a significant role in the game's story: The Human Ranger Minsc. Having appeared in the franchise's previous games, Minsc is widely regarded as the series' most iconic character in no small part due to the bond he shares with his adorable companion Boo, a hamster that can be summoned at will in the game. Mercer's casting as the Ranger was extremely well received by the community as players believe his deep voice is the perfect fit for such a beloved hero.
