Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment haven’t spoken as much about Star Wars Outlaws’ space sections as they have about its many planets and moons and the gameplay opportunities they will present, but what little has been said so far has certainly indicated that the game’s grand scale and ambition will be reflected in the parts of its intergalactic map where protagonist Kay Vess will be piloting her ship, the Trailblazer.
Players will have plenty to do when flying through space, per creative director Julian Gerighty, from dogfights and large-scale battles to space stations with their own side quests, while on a more granular level, Gerighty says ship traversal and combat will be “accessible, fun, and action-packed”, with controls that are “extremely easy to get into.”
“We wanted to make spaceflight as accessible, fun, and action-packed as possible,” Gerighty told Game Informer. “The controls are extremely easy to get into. There’s always something to do. It’s fast to travel; you can hyperdrive at any moment, and there’s combat, of course, both on an intimate dogfight scale but also on an epic scale too. And there’s exploration. There’s a lot of things to do in space.”
The last week has brought several new details on Star Wars Outlaws, with Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft shedding new light on its Reputation system, its many factions, the open world, and much more.
The game has also attracted controversy over its $130 Ultimate Edition, which features an exclusive Jabba the Hutt side quest. Read more on that through here.
Star Wars Outlaws will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on August 30.
