The War Within is bringing us to exciting new zones, introducing us to old friends and new, and most importantly, updating our professions!
We're taking a dive into Fishing in The War Within's Alpha, reeling in fun new fish, cosmetics, and a new mechanic to spice up the profession!
Traditionally, Fishing has been a rather basic secondary profession — players didn't need much more than a rod and time (and after a while, the rod was optional too!), and they'd slowly increase their skill over time. The War Within breathes some new life into this gameplay loop, however, with the addition of the Algari Weaverline, as well as the Algari Anglerthread and Algari Seekerthread.
Once players obtain an Algari Weaverline, they can attach it to the fishing tool of their choice; from there, collecting Algari Anglerthread and Algari Seekerthread will add to your overall Fishing Skill and Perception. With Khaz Algar Fishing capped at 300 Skill, players will need to utilize this mechanic to properly catch fish in Azj-Kahet, which has a recommended Skill level of 375 according to the fishing journal.
Each thread type also comes with its own collection achievements, such as 100 Algari Anglerthread. Players can earn achievements every 10 collected threads, up to 100 for the last requirement!
It's not an expansion without new Fishing cosmetics, and there's a fun one this time around — after all, who doesn't want to swing a fish around during combat?
Unlike past fish mace models that wouldn't necessarily be transmoggable, the Dasher's Trophy Fish is a true cosmetic item — if you liked using Toxic Smackerel in Plunderstorm, you'll love this — flies and all!
As always, new fish mean new lures to catch them — but these aren't just any fish. Many of the fish in Khaz Algar come with interesting effects, such as raising your fishing Skill or stunning enemies with a smack!
