Red Hook Studios' 2023 roguelike dungeon crawler Darkest Dungeon 2 is officially coming to PS4 and PS5 consoles on July 15. The sequel to 2016’s award-winning game known for its punishing difficulty and well-executed gameplay, Darkest Dungeon 2 was initially released only on PC. But like its predecessor, it seems that the game will gradually be doled out to other platforms as well.
The first inkling that the gamemight be headed to consoles came in March, when keen-eyed observers noticed that Darkest Dungeon 2 had been rated in Brazil for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series consoles, PS4, and PS5. To the disappointment of excited fans, this new rating didn’t reveal a possible release date, but if the pattern of the original game was anything to go by, many people expected the console versions of Darkest Dungeon 2 to arrive sometime in 2024.
That expectation is now being confirmed, at least in part. Red Hook Studios has released an announcement trailer to reveal that Darkest Dungeon 2 will be coming to PS4 and PS5 on July 15. Preorders are already open, and PlayStation Plus subscribers can get a discount on their purchase. For now, there has been no official mention of Switch or Xbox versions, but the first game similarly released on PlayStation before arriving on other consoles.
Darkest Dungeon 2 is also available in a special Oblivion Edition bundle that includes both the base game and the Binding Blade DLC, which adds another questline, a wandering boss, and two new heroes to the experience. An upcoming free update for Darkest Dungeon 2 will introduce Kingdoms, a campaign game mode that tasks players with defeating a major threat before it overwhelms the kingdom. They will be able to gather resources to upgrade heroes and a network of Inns, helping them defend against the incursions of monsters.
