One lesser-known quest in Act One of has players investigate Kagha, the temporary leader of the Emerald Grove. With the archdruid Halsin missing, Kagha has overtaken the druids’ Emerald Grove and rules with an iron fist. Players can choose to investigate her motives to stop her from expelling the Tiefling refugees by force and sealing the grove off forever.
The quest to investigate Kagha is arguably one of the best-kept secrets of Act One, as players can only start an investigation once they find a note in a well-hidden chest. However, it’s worth pursuing this investigation all the way to the end. It rewards your party with XP and gear and has positive results on the overall story flow of Act One.
To start the quest, head inside the Servants’ Quarters. The bookcase to the left of the door has a small nook behind it (X: 488, Y-7) that contains Kagha’s Chest. Inside, you can find a book on the doctrine of the Shadow Druids and a Half-Torn Note.
This is a different area from Nettie’s Library, where players can seek aid from the druid Nettie and solve a rune puzzle.
The chest is locked with aDC10 Sleight of Hand check, so you will need to pick the lock. It’s also considered private property, so you should ideally be hidden from view when interacting with it to avoid being confronted. A druid wanders around this area, but otherwise, it’s fairly easy to avoid being seen.
The note describes a meeting between Kagha and someone named Olodan, who had a meeting spot in the swamp. The note is a reference to the Sunlit Wetlands/Putrid Bog area.
The Sunlit Wetlands or Putrid Bog area is located southwest of the Emerald Grove. Head west out of the Emerald Grove and then south once you reach the gates of the Blighted Village. Along the way, you can have your first meeting with Scratch the Dog and find the herbalist Auntie Ethel being confronted by two men.
You might also want to detour north of the Blighted Village to recruit Karlach. However, recruiting Karlach has consequences
