Baldur’s Gate 3 was the big winner at the 24th annual Game Developers Choice Awards.
Larian’s game, which is based on the tabletop fantasy RPG system of Dungeons & Dragons, took home the Game of the Year prize.
It also won Best Narrative, Best Design and the Audience Award at the ceremony, which took place as part of GDC 2024 at San Francisco’s Moscone Convention Center.
Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom won the Innovation and Best Technology Awards, while Visai Games’ narrative cooking game Venba also received two prizes, the Best Debut and Social Impact Awards.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Japanese composer and pianist Yoko Shimomura, who has created music for games including Super Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts, Street Fighter 2 and Final Fantasy XV.
The Ambassador Award, which is presented to individuals who have helped advance the medium, was presented to Fawzi Mesmar. Currently serving as VP, global creative at Ubisoft, he’s had a hand in developing franchises including Battlefield, Candy Crush, Mario + Rabbids and Persona.
Larian CEO and Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke said: “Congratulations to all the nominees and other winners! And thank you – it’s a great honor to see our work recognized by your peers. You are all amazing and deserve recognition and respect for the love you pour in so players can enjoy themselves.”
