Three comic books based on video games are among the titles to be given away during Free Comic Book Day next month.
A total of 48 comics will be made available for free at participating comic book stores around the world on May 4, 2024. A list of stores can be found on the campaign’s website.
These include Street Fighter vs Final Fight issue 1, Far Cry: Cull the Herd issue 1 and a Pokémon Adventures: Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire special (which also includes a Splatoon 3 story).
The Pokémon comic is a gold-tier book, which means it will be available in every participating comic store.
Street Fighter vs Final Fight and Far Cry, meanwhile, are silver-tier books, which means availability will vary depending on the store.
While each store has their own system in place for the event, the general rule of thumb is that customers will be able to visit a participating store and choose one free comic.
While the comics usually aren’t available digitally – since the whole point of the event is to encourage people to visit their local comic book stores – some publishers choose to release the comics as digital downloads a few days or weeks later.
The descriptions for each issue are as follows:
“The fighters of two fantastic video game franchises collide in Street Fighter vs Final Fight!
“In this special Capcom crossover issue, the World Warriors come to blows with the heroes of Metro City across multiple eras of fighting game history!
“It’s a martial arts-fueled feud that reaches from the time of the original Final Fight 1, all the way up to the modern day Street Fighter 6!”
“Villains from popular Far Cry games are transported into prehistoric times by the priestess Batari, who has pulled them from their lives before they’ve committed their most heinous crimes.
“Now, they’re tasked with fighting against the dangers of a prehistoric world and challenging their supposed destiny. Will the unusual circumstances encourage them to come together, fight against each other, or go rogue?
