Reddit user Telephone_Express noticed an Elden Ring tweet from March 11, 2022 that reads: «You are the hope of the Golden Order, Tarnished. Your choices will shape the future of all who dwell in the shadow of the Erdtree.» The tweet is accompanied by a video showing off various Elden Ring builds, cycling through some of the different weapons and armor that players can equip on their adventures. While no one paid the tweet much attention back when it was first sent out in March 2022, the fact that it says «the shadow of the Erdtree» has drummed up some interest.
It's entirely possible that FromSoftware had the Elden Ring DLC planned out well in advance and was always going to call it Shadow of the Erdtree, which would potentially make this tweet an intentional nod to the expansion.
