No fewer than three Pokemon games are already in the works for the Switch 2, a well-known leaker has said. Their claim serves as encouraging news for fans worried that the next Nintendo console, which the company just confirmed will be unveiled by March 2025, could take a while to get going with Pokemon content.
That is precisely what happened to the Switch, which had to wait 20 months for its first pair of Pokemon games, the critically acclaimed Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. Namely, Nintendo's current-gen console arrived just as Game Freak was wrapping up work on Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which served as the 3DS's swan song, at least as far as the Japanese studio's output is concerned.
But Game Freak may be better prepared for the Switch successor, as suggested by Twitter user @Riddler_Khu, also known as Khu Beating Around The Bush; the well-known leaker has recently taken to social media to state that three Pokemon games have already been greenlit for the Switch 2. The trio includes «that project,» the leaker said, presumably in reference to the Generation 10 games.
One of these three alleged Switch 2 games may be the recently announced Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which Nintendo officially confirmed was in the works as part of the February 2024 Pokemon Presents broadcast. While the second Pokemon Legends title was only announced for the Switch, its 2025 release target overlaps with the widely rumored Switch 2 launch window. With Nintendo supposedly aiming to release its next console in or around March 2025, it seems plausible that Pokemon Legends: Z-A could be a cross-gen title. If for no other reason, then because the upcoming device is rumored to offer backward compatibility.
