The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt announced its official mod editor kit is scheduled for a PC release on May 21, 2024. Since its launch nearly a decade ago, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has become one of the landmark titles of the gaming industry, thanks in part to its thriving library of downloadable fanmade mods. Now, CD Projekt Red revealed a powerful new tool for modders, which promises to provide creative fans with unparalleled options in expanding upon the game's content.
The success of The Witcher 3 is perhaps the biggest feather in CD Projekt Red's cap, with the threequel debuting to overwhelming praise from new fans and series veterans alike. The game was so beloved that it retains a sizable fanbase even now, nearly 10 years since its 2015 launch. Its diehard fans have kept The Witcher 3 alive with mods that have enhanced the game's graphical, UI, and gameplay elements.
Now, a new tool from the game's studio is offering these modders a way to customize The Witcher 3 to their heart's content with the REDkit, an official modding kit developed by CD Projekt scheduled for launch on May 21. According to the software's Steam page, The Witcher 3's REDkit offers fans the freedom to edit almost every element of the game, meaning players can craft anything from unique gear to entirely new territories for others to explore. With that said, REDkit won't be available for everyone. The REDkit and likely all mods developed using the tool will only be available for PC users who own a copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Steam, GOG, or the Epic Store, and console players will, unfortunately, have to make do with the vanilla experience.
Official mod support for The Witcher 3 is only one of the many tasks CD Projekt Red has kept in the production pipeline. The studio previously announced several projects for The Witcher franchise were in development, which included a multiplayer-focused Witcher game codenamed Project Sirius and a remake of the original The Witcher video game.
