Gameplay footage for the rumored Sonic the Hedgehog battle royale spin-off has just been leaked online, giving interested fans a glimpse at its fast-paced multiplayer action. The past couple of years have seen the release of several Sonic the Hedgehog games, from the experimental open-world format of Sonic Frontiers to the more traditional 2D platforming of Sonic Superstars. 2024 looks to be yet another banner year for the Blue Blur, with several promising tie-in projects on the horizon.
At the very beginning of the year, rumors started to spread of Sega planning to launch a Fall Guys-style multiplayer Sonic spin-off game at some point in 2024. Tentatively named Sonic Toys Party, this game will supposedly be a free-to-play, live-service mobile title that sees players race along obstacle courses with either Sonic or one of the franchise’s many supporting characters in frantic 32-player match-ups. Sonic Toys Party will also reportedly feature crossovers with other fabled Sega IPs like Persona, and Sonic’s signature rings will be used as an in-game currency to unlock new costumes, emotes, and other cosmetics.
Gameplay footage of Sonic Toys Party was recently leaked online. As shown on the Sonic-based YouTube channel The Sonic Show, and reported by Insider Gaming, this footage features toy-like versions of several classic characters from the Sonic universe running along an obstacle course in a manner that indeed resembles Fall Guys. Several classic Sonic hallmarks are present, such as boost ramps, massive loop-de-loops, and robotic Badnik enemies that stand between the players and their goal. There is even a moment when the camera shifts to a 2D side view reminiscent of Sonic Superstars.
