, one of the longest-running open-world survival games on Steam, is finally launching into 1.0 after over a decade of early access development. While the game's community has fluctuated over the years, the zombie-themed game has retained a healthy playerbase since it first debuted in 2013 thanks to a relatively steady stream of updates and patches by developer The Fun Pimps. Despite the fact that the game's lengthy early access period has turned into somewhat of a meme, the studio is moving ahead with an official launch and its pulling out all the stops.
Per an official statement on the blog, The Fun Pimps confirmed that the survival game will release into 1.0 in June 2024, introducing a wealth of massive system overhauls and improvements.
Some of the specified tweaks include a new character system, revamped armor and equipment, additional zombies, new animals, and a gore mechanic for undead enemies. Following this update, being refered to as the Alpha 22 version, the 1.0 version will go live on consoles in July 2024, bringing with it all the improvements seen in the PC build of the game.
