Magic: The Gathering's scheduled ban announcement took place earlier today, and while no one really expected Wizards of the Coast to make any big changes, it did just that by declaring that both Stickers and Attractions are now banned in Legacy and Vintage formats.
Starting from May 13, Wizards has announced that "all cards that bring a sticker or an Attraction into the game are banned," in what is sure to be a huge competitive shake up for the Legacy and Vintage formats. A total of 57 cards have been banned as a result, 36 of them Sticker generation cards and 20 of them Attraction generating cards. The final card to be banned was All That Glitters in the Pauper, which is unrelated to Stickers/Attractions.
That's a whole bunch of cards, far too many to actually go into in this article, but Wizards of the Coast has included a list of every affected card in the official ban announcement. There are a couple of notable bans though, those being _____ Goblin and The Most Dangerous Gamer, two cards which either are or were very popular in Legacy and are arguably the reason as to why the mechanics have been banned.
Wizards of the Coast has also gone into some of the reasons behind the banning of Stickers and Attractions, and it's mostly down to them making the game less flexible. Due to _____ Goblin being a fairly popular card in Legacy, Wizards felt as though many fans were feeling obligated to bring Sticker and Attraction decks on the off-chance that they're able to copy it. Wizards has now banned Stickers and Attractions as it didn't think this was a "a healthy or fun dynamic."
On top of this announcement, Wizards has also teased its next ban announcement, which will take place on June 24 next month. We don't quite know what's on the chopping block this time around, mostly because Modern Horizons 3 is right around the corner, so Wizards will likely see what happens following the release of that set before making any final decisions.
