A PlayStation Showcase could be happening before the end of the month. At least, that's what it sounds like based on a letter from Hiroki Totoki, who took over as Chairman of PlayStation after Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino were named CEOs.
In a message sent to SIE employees, Totoki congratulated the pair on succeeding Jim Ryan as CEOs of the gaming arm of Sony. He also wrote the following:
Later this month you will learn more about the long-term vision for Sony Group and the essential role SIE plays in that vision.
Prior to Monday's succession announcement, rumors had been swirling that a PlayStation Showcase could be happening soon. Now it would seem that those rumors are no longer just hopes.
While Totoki's letter seemingly confirms an event for later this month, it could very well be the opposite. Sony also has a public meeting, meaning that Totoki could be referencing that and not a showcase.
But as AestheticGamer pointed out on social media, Sony held both a public event and a PlayStation Showcase on the same day last year. In other words, all hope is not lost. But there is a slight chance that what he's referencing isn't what fans had in mind.
PlayStation gamers in 2024 have been treated to some amazing titles, including Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin and Helldivers 2. But now that all of those titles have been released, there are a lot of question marks about what will come next, particularly in the latter half of 2024 and beyond.
Sure, there are some exciting third-party titles set to be released, like Star Wars: Outlaws and Metaphor: ReFantazio, but as far as first-party offerings are concerned, nothing is imminent.
It stands to reason that Sony will have a Horizon announcement of some kind. It's been rumoured that a Lego collaboration is on its way and that a trailer is also ready to go. What the collaboration is remains to be seen. Lego and Horizon previously collaborated on a Tallneck set.
