A PlayStation VR2 PC adapter has been spotted

An adapter which would allow the PlayStation VR2 to work with a PC has been spotted on a Korean certification website.

Spotted by Brad Lynch, a filing on Korea’s Nation Radio Research Agency refers to a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, which has been submitted by Sony Interactive Entertainment Korea.

The item’s certification date was in late March, suggesting the item could be announced soon.

Sony confirmed earlier this year that it was working on bringing PC support to its second-generation VR headset.

“We’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5”, it said on the PlayStation Blog in February.

PS5’s virtual reality headset launched in February 2023 for $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99 and sales reportedly got off to a slow start.

The following month, Hiroki Totoki said he thought PS VR2 had a “good chance” of outselling its predecessor, which launched for PS4 in October 2016 and sold over five million units.

In October, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president and head of global marketing, Eric Lempel, described VR as a meaningful business for the company, but one that was yet to reach its’s potential.

“The VR category is important to us. It’s a category that can help us with innovation,” he said. “It’s never going to be the only way people play games, but I’m happy that we’re in it. There are great experiences to be had and consumers really like it. But it’s a nascent business for us.”

And in December, Lempel told the Financial Times that VR “is a bit of a challenging category right now”, despite Sony’s own sales reportedly “going well”.

While he said Sony remained committed to VR products, he added: “I think there was a higher expectation generally for what VR would do to gaming.”
