PS5 sales have surpassed 59.2 million units worldwide, Sony has revealed.
Sony published its most recent financial earnings for the 4th quarter of its current fiscal year, announcing that it managed to sell 20.8 million PS5 consoles during the (fiscal) year. This is slightly below the revised sales target of 21 million that the company set some months ago. As revealed in the supplemental information that Sony has released, 4.5 million PS5 consoles were sold during the fourth quarter of the fiscal year. For reference, Sony managed to sell 6.3 million consoles during the same quarter last year.
With global PS5 sales being down year-over-year, Sony now expects sales to decline to 18 million during its current fiscal year (FY24). Back in December of last year, we wrote that the PS5 was tracking in on PS4 time-aligned sales, but with PS5 sales now being down year-on-year, we wonder whether PS5 sales will ever surpass lifetime PS4 sales.
In other sales-related news - as revealed (via Tom Warren) during Sony's conference call, Arrowhead's hit title Helldivers 2 has sold over 12 million copies across both PS5 and PC as of May 5th. This means that those copies were sold in 12 weeks. Interestingly enough - three weeks after the title's launch in early February, Arrowhead reported that over 3 million units were sold. This implies that around 9 million additional copies were sold in 9 weeks - roughly 1 million a week.
We'll update you as soon as more information about PlayStation comes in from today's earnings release.
