After months of speculation, All Elite Wrestling’s first video game, Fight Forever has a confirmed release date. It was announced today that Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4, PS5, and PC owners will be able to enjoy the game on June 29 Developed by Yuke’s and headed up by the same director as the Aki engine’s N64 classics like WWF No Mercy and WCW/NWO Revenge, this inaugural game has a massive amount of underground hype behind it.
The team at Yuke’s has nearly three decades of 3D wrestling gaming experience under their belt – with Toukon Retsuden being the first 3D wrestling game ever and also bearing the New Japan license. There’s no word yet on if any future DLC will feature NJPW talent, but it would make sense given that both companies work together a lot and it doesn’t seem like we’ll ever see a modern-day NJPW game on its own.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the game’s release as it draws closer and in five weeks, we’ll be able to see just how well it holds up to the classics while still carving out its own history. Yuke’s Day of Reckoning games also went with an Aki engine-inspired gameplay engine but sped things up a bit and that kind of foundation is important for an AEW game with an all-star roster of international talent in the company itself.
