Bungie today announced the return of Cayde-6 while teasing Destiny 2’s next expansion, The Final Shape.
Destiny 2: Lightfall may have only launched in February, and Season of the Deep only just started, but Bungie have already started the hype train for Destiny 2: The Final Shape. During today’s PlayStation Showcase, the developer confirmed that the previously dead Cayde-6 will return and play a role in next year’s expansion. Furthermore, actor Nathan Fillion will reprise the role after Nolan North took over for Cayde’s final appearance in Destiny 2: Forsaken.
Cayde-6 has been around since the original game’s release in 2014 where he served as the Hunter’s representative on the Vanguard alongside Zavala and Ikora Rey. Originally voiced by Fillion, Cayde became a fan-favorite in the Destiny community thanks to his fun personality. In Destiny 2: Forsaken, Cayde-6 was killed off by Uldren Sov, which kicked off the revenge filled expansion. It remains unknown how Bungie intends on reviving Cayde-6, or whether players will have to wait until The Final Shape for his resurrection.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape is set to be the finale of the ten-year Light & Darkness saga, which Bungie intends to fully reveal at a special Destiny Showcase event on August 22. Before that, though, the studio has a lot of storytelling to cover. Destiny 2: Lightfall, unfortunately, did a poor job setting up the upcoming final chapter. Much of the work explaining the Veil, the Witness and its motivations, and what The Final Shape could possibly mean will be revealed throughout the remaining three seasons.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape is expected to launch sometime in 2024. Destiny 2: Lightfall is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4, and Xbox
