Spell scrolls and potions are super useful consumables in that often end up underutilized by players. This is mostly due to how the balance of many games doesn't require a massive stockpile of these items, and when they are needed, they can commonly be found throughout the party's adventures. While players have always had the ability to make extras,it is not a practice many parties partake in.
But the new 2024 provides more detailed, straightforward rules on consumable creation which may encourage players to take another look. Spell scrolls and healing potions specifically have had their creation processes laid out in more direct terms and have been made easier to access by a wider range of players. Especially after the smash hit of, which uses rules and highlights the use of scrolls and potions, more parties may be excited about making use of this crafting ability.
The 2024 's new rules specifies the tools, proficiencies, cost, and material components of all kinds of spell scrolls and basic healing potions. Healing potions are extremely simple, requiring a character to possess an Herbalism Kit and have proficiency with it, then spend25 gold pieces and 8 hours to construct one potion. Scrolls, on the other hand, require Calligrapher's Tools or Arcana proficiency on any kind of spellcaster, the material components of the spell, and an amount of time and money dependent on the spell's level.
There are a few strange things about this creation process, such as Alchemist Supplies not being used to make potions. Also, rather disappointingly, the Crafter feat – part of 's new character creation rules – can't be used to gain proficiency with Calligrapher's Tools or an Herbalism Kit.
