As Ukrainian studio Frogwares continues to develop its remake of 2006’s Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, the Russian invasion keeps presenting complications. Because of this, the studio announced that it would delay the release of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, albeit only by a few weeks. After its initial projected release window of late February to early March, Frogwares will now aim to release the game between late March and early April.
This time, though, Frogwares did not relay this news through a written statement. A few days ago, the studio uploaded a nearly four-minute unlisted video to YouTube that explains its current situation in detail.
The video notes that as the war in Ukraine has raged on, Russia has conducted more targeted bombings on the country’s energy infrastructure. This has led to numerous power outages, resulting in the Ukrainian government holding regularly scheduled blackouts. Although these blackouts have thus far succeeded in preserving Ukraine’s remaining energy, the overall situation has nonetheless not made things easy for the developer. Some power outages go on for several days, forcing the developer and civilians to rely on alternative energy sources.
Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the developer has mostly stuck to working remotely. But whenever power outages affect team members’ homes, they end up having to move to their office to continue working there. And since the office also often has its power cut, the developers end up moving between their homes and their office multiple times in one day.
And with Frogwares also having to develop Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened for nine different platforms, it’s no wonder it had to delay the game. Even so, Frogwares chose to end the video
