Look, we really like the Sonic kart racing games, but we’re particularly big fans of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Why? Well, because we loved the gameplay – which appears to be present in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – but also because we enjoyed the character roster.
There’s hope, however, that SEGA’s new racer won’t just be limited to heroes and villains from the Sonic universe.
Writing on the PS Blog, SEGA’s PR manager hinted that you can expect a cast based on “iconic characters from the Sonic and SEGA”.
This implies to us that alongside the obvious inclusion already announced – like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, Eggman, and Jet – you can also potentially look forward to the likes of Ulala, Amigo, and maybe even Kazuma Kiryu. Perhaps not Danica Patrick, though!
The game itself looks fantastic, with the CrossWorlds element bringing a brilliant gimmick to the experience. Effectively, whoever’s leading the race by Lap 2 will be able to pick a Travel Ring to drive through, thus transforming the stage entirely. Some of these tracks will switch from traditional go-karts to water and aerial vehicles.
Closed network test soon
You’ll be able to get to grips with an early version of the game during a Closed Network Test on PS5 and PS4 later this year. Personally, we can’t wait to take it for a spin.

Easily my favourite game shown yesterday, Sonic Racing Transformed was so much fun and as good as any Mario Kart, so to see that concept expanded is very welcome
