Developer 1047 Games has announced that it will be releasing an alpha build of its competitive shooter Splitgate 2 on PS4 and PS5. As part of the alpha, players will get to try out a new 24-player game mode that will pit three teams of 8 players each against each other.
Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, 1047 Games lead writer Nate Dern also spoke about the studio’s experiences when it first started making games, and how this led to player feedback being important for the development of Splitgate 2.

Splitgate 2 will put players in the shoes of a futuristic athlete, referred to as an Ace, competing in televised death matches. Those that have played Valve’s Portal series will find the mechanic familiar, since Splitgate 2‘s take on the idea also similarly makes use of momentum.
“While we work to bring this game we love to the next level, it’s also important to us to stay true to where we started: a portal shooter with amazing movement and incredibly satisfying gunplay that’s fun as hell to play,” wrote Dern. “To that end, we’re continually adjusting based on feedback from internal and external playtests to make sure that our portal mechanic, killer movement, and unparalleled gunplay remain at the core of what sets us apart from every other FPS out there.”
Creative director of Splitgate 2 and studio CEO Ian Proulx has previously spoken about his desire to make the upcoming shooter a
