is reportedly being eyed for a major role in, the A24 and Peacock Friday the 13th prequel series.
Crystal Lake comes from showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry). Prior to that, Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller had been tapped to be the showrunner on the series, which was originally announced in 2022. Fuller left the project in May 2024.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Cardellini is now being eyed to play Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees, in Crystal Lake. The deal has not been officially announced or completed at this time, though Sneider said Cardellini would likely “be hard-pressed to turn this down.”
Cardellini is known for playing Velma Dinkley in 2002’s Scooby-Doo and 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and Laura Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She starred as Lindsay Weir in Freaks and Geeks and recently appeared as Margo Starling in Netflix’s No Good Deed.
Cardellini’s filmography further includes 2001’s Legally Blonde, 2005’s Brokeback Mountain, 2010’s Super, 2018’s A Simple Favor, 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona, and, most recently, 2024’s Nutcrackers, among other titles.
Plot details for Crystal Lake remain under wraps at this time. Kane will executive produce alongside Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, and Robert P. Barsamian.
“From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” Kane previously said in a statement. “Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
A premiere date for Crystal Lake has not yet been announced.
