Rockstar Games currently has GTA 6 slated to launch in the Fall 2025 window, but last night's State of Play event could have inadvertently reduced that timeframe by a little. From the same company putting out GTA 6, it was confirmed that Borderlands 4 will release for PS5 on 23rd September 2025.
In comments made by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick last November, it was insinuated that the two titles won't release very close together. «I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily,» he said. More recently, Zelnick reiterated its intentions to release GTA 6 in the Fall 2025 window, which stretches from September to December. The firm is said to feel «really good» about its current estimate.
Now we have a release date for Borderlands 4, coupled with the comments from Zelnick, it appears the general release window for GTA 6 has shrunk. Based on his comments about not wanting to «stack up huge releases unnecessarily», the two games won't be released close together. You'd think Take-Two would want a buffer of at least a few weeks between the two releases, which means GTA 6 could launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at the very start of September, or in mid-October and beyond.
Of course, this could just as easily suggest a delay to 2026. Either way, it seems like a GTA 6 launch during September is highly unlikely to happen — unless it's during the first week. However, even then, releasing Borderlands 4 just after GTA 6 will likely significantly harm the former's sales potential.
