Developer Rebellion has released a new trailer for upcoming survival investigative game Atomfall. The trailer showcases some of the game’s features, while also giving us a look at its world and some of the characters players will get to interact with. Check out the trailer below.
The trailer emphasises the investigative aspects of Atomfall quite a bit, prompting players to investigate the game’s mysteries by searching, scavenging, and uncovering secrets. The trailer emphasises the danger players will face against the title’s various enemy factions.
Survival is also core part of Atomfall, of course, and players will have to sneak their way around various enemies while also making sure that they get enough supplies to get by.
Earlier this week, lead designer Ben Fisher revealed that Atomfall had to go through several iterations during development before the studio was able to land on something it was happy with. Fisher spoke about how plans made before development don’t always work, and that the developers had to “work in layers” to experiment and iterate.
“In the case of Atomfall, we were doing something so experimental in so many different ways.,” said Fisher in an interview. “We had to work in layers instead and kind of iterate the game over time.”
Fisher also spoke about the level of stress experienced by the studio when it came to things not going as planned during development. This is because, while plans can be made, the realities of game development will often need these plans to be drastically altered.
““So you’d have to approach any piece of design, any piece of content, bearing in mind that you don’t know if that’s the right answer,” he said. “It’s your best guess so far, but you’ll only find out once it’s actually in context. You absolutely have to leave room for iteration. But you also need to do the work in a way that allows you to iterate. That doesn’t come for free.”
In another interview from January, art director Ryan Greene spoke about how
