I recently listed my favorite games of 2023. And since I’ve been making these lists for so long, I decided to look backward for the sake of nostalgia.
Here’s my favorite games of the last 13 years. They’re in chronological order. I think that 2010, 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2020 were fabulous. I like the bookends of the start and the end of this list. I’ve got fond memories of playing the titles over again with family members, or joining into multiplayer matches with friends. Most of these titles are triple-A games. Occasionally, a mobile game like Fallout Shelter would appear. It almost made the list, but sadly it was a bit short as an experience.
Still, I think the variety is good. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into some of these games. Some games, like Call of Duty: Warzone, I’ve been playing for years. As for Call of Duty’s premium titles, I’ve played them every year. I don’t like the fact that I don’t have as much time to play games as in the past. But I like sinking my teeth into an awesome experience.
Still, I’m glad to have these games a part of my life. I think they helped make me who I am. I don’t think in terms of a pile of shame. Or the great games I haven’t played. I like to think of those that I would love to sink even more time into on this list. Of the games listed here, the one I didn’t finish was Elden Ring. Someday, I hope to return to it and make it happen.
