In , both Princess Zelda and Queen Sonia of ancient Hyrule are revealed to possess Time magic. However, they may not be the only characters in the game to have access to this power. Various forms of magic can be seen wielded in the game, from Riju’s ability to conjure lightning to the healing magic possessed by the foreign Zora Yona. Time magic seems to be a particularly rare variety, but at the same time, it is perhaps not as unique as it may first seem.
Magic has appeared in many different forms throughout, with Link himself commonly utilizing it through various enchanted artifacts. Of course, this isn’t universal, and some games in the franchise do see Link using magic spells more directly, as well as other characters. Zelda’s repeated ability to summon the Bow of Light alongside the incredibly powerful Light Arrows is one prominent example of this, but also shows that many of the races of Hyrule seem to have their own highly thematic magical affinities (such as the Zora being associated with power over water).
One of Link’s combat abilities in and is Flurry Fush, which allows him to enter a form of Bullet Time after executing a Perfect Dodge; the world slows around him, and he is able to unleash a rapid series of blows. There is no detailed description of how this works, being overshadowed by the abilities granted first the Sheikah Slate and then Rauru’s Arm, but it does seem to be a personal skill of Link’s. But considering the way Link briefly moves much quicker than his foes,his Flurry Rush may actually be an application of time magic.
Perfect Dodging requires jumping away from an enemy’s attack immediately before Link would be hit. Flurry Rushes themselves have differing combo hit numbers depending on Link’s equipped weapon type, and a weapon breaking will also end the Flurry Rush.
