Nintendo and LEGO are teaming up on a new brick set based on the Mario Kart franchise. The set was teased as part of LEGO's recent stream commemorating Mario Day.
While Nintendo used to make its own toy bricks back in the '60s, the Japanese gaming giant is nowadays happy to collaborate with LEGO itself. Their partnership has already yielded a wide variety of products, with one of the most recent such offerings being the immensely popular LEGO Animal Crossing set.
That trend is now continuing with a LEGO Super Mario Kart set, which was just jointly confirmed by both Nintendo and the Danish toy manufacturer. Following up on the recent teaser promising LEGO news on Mario Day 2024, the companies revealed that a brick set based on the Mario Kart franchise will be hitting the market at some point next year. The announcement did not include a look at the product itself, save for a glimpse at a partially obscured brick kart racer.
The Super Mario figurine featured in the teaser is part of some of the already released LEGO sets, though it's likely to be included in this one as well. The stated 2025 release window coincides with the fifth anniversary of the LEGO Super Mario lineup. Whether that means that the new set could be fully unveiled or released on Mario Day 2025 remains to be seen. Historically, new LEGO Super Mario sets were often showcased in late summer and early fall. The theme's fifth anniversary falls in August 2025.
LEGO's early Mario Day 2024 stream included a detailed look at three other Super Mario sets that are meant to hit the store shelves in the near future: Battle with Roy at Peach’s Castle, Bowser Express Train, and King Boo’s Haunted Mansion. None of these have yet been treated to release dates or pricing information. The latter can be estimated based on the rough number of bricks contained in the newly showcased sets, as similarly sized LEGO Super Mario products currently go for between $75 and $150, depending on the exact theme and a given set's age
