New Mario and Princess Peach Spirits will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on March 22. A number of Spirits based on characters from various franchises have made their way to the popular fighting game in recent months.
One of the things that distinguishes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from its predecessors is its use of Spirits, which are in-game power-ups and collectibles that boost a character's stats or give them a unique ability. Since its release in December 2018, the Nintendo Switch exclusive developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. has managed to amass more than 1,500 Spirits, and that list is expected to expand within just a couple of days.
The official Japanese Twitter account of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate announced that new Spirits based on characters from Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Princess Peach: Showtime! will appear on the Spirit Board for five days starting March 22. Princess Peach: Showtime! — one of the most anticipated games of 2024 — is set to launch that day.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's introduction of new Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Princess Peach: Showtime! Spirits is part of a special campaign that commemorates the fighting game's fifth anniversary, and this latest batch will be the last in the celebration. Prior to this, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate received Spirits from the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet series, with Ninth Generation Legendary Pokemon Koraidon and Miraidon being the first to make their way to the game in February. They were followed by Ogerpon, Terapagos, and the Paldea starters, Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito.
Spirits based on characters from other Nintendo properties like The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon were also added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in January as part of the fighting game's fifth anniversary celebration, but several third-party franchises were featured in the campaign as well. For example, characters from Supergiant Games' Hades, Vanillaware's 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, and Konami's WBSC eBASEBALL:
