Cross-platform multiplayer is always a welcome feature, letting you play with your pals, even if you're all on different consoles and PCs. But thanks to some Roblox developers, we might see our first example of cross-game play - if that's even the right word for it.
Mineplay is a Roblox game that's in development now, and has already been tested by fans. When it works, it lets Minecraft and Roblox users play together, as if they were all in the same game. It hasn't been in development for long, but the devs are already sharing some incredible results.
Mineplay's development comes after two other programmers proved that it was possible to get Minecraft and Roblox to interact with each other. TikTok user i_know_iam_cringe appears to be the first person to get it working long enough to record a video, inspiring programmer NickiBreeki to show how it could be implemented on the Roblox dev forum.
Now, a team of developers are doing just that. They're sharing their progress on the TikTok account mineplay_roblox, and some of their updates have already gone viral. Since then, they've shared a bunch more, all of them getting a lot of attention.
While the process has been explained by another programmer, it's enough to go over my non-game dev head entirely. Seeing Minecraft and Roblox users build something together seems like nothing short of magic, but here it is, working in one of its test runs.
A Discord server for Mineplay updates has been set up too and is open to anyone via a link on their TikTok page. Right now, it looks like the team is still deciding when to open it up to fans again, but you'll probably be among the first to know if you join. You can also leave suggestions for the developers on other features that could be implemented.
