Getting to go on a date at the Gold Saucer is an exciting moment in , but this iconic event doesn't get to properly play out on the first trip to the amusement park. From a narrative standpoint, it's probably a good thing that Cloud's break time is interrupted, as the sequence running from Costa del Sol to the Gold Saucer has quite a lot of downtime for an intense plot. All the same, it's hard not to spend a lot of time wondering when there is another chance to go on a Gold Saucer date.
It doesn't take long to be able to return to the Gold Saucer in an idle sense, as provides a lot of opportunities to jump back to prior locations to complete sidequests or simply wander around. In the case of the Gold Saucer, however, any casual return doesn't open up the chance to go on a date. Although some additional Queen's Blood challenges can provide a minor draw, the proper second trip to the Gold Saucer is something that comes much later in the game.
There are several more regions to go in before the official return to the Gold Saucer is possible, with Gongaga, Cosmo Canyon, and Nibel all coming first in line. After tackling all of these new areas, however, the end of Chapter 11 presents the party with the conclusion that another visit to the amusement park will be necessary to make progress. At the beginning of Chapter 12, the second round of the Gold Saucer opens up as a possibility, although the party is free to visit other locations first.
When the option to return to the Gold Saucer appears in, it can feel like a commitment, as Cid Highwind won't present any other travel destinations like he usually does. One bumpy ride later, however, the party ends up in Costa del Sol instead, and they can proceed on to the Gold Saucer or pursue other objectives from there. The main quest does simply present the Gold Saucer as the next destination, where Cait Sith is convinced the party can track down a lead on the keystone necessary to access the Temple of the Ancients.
