11 bit studios kicked off its beta for its post-apocalyptic city-builder, Frostpunk 2, this week for those who have pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition of the game. The beta runs through April 22.
Frostpunk 2’s Deluxe Edition also includes three of the game’s post-launch DLC, a three day headstart, an exclusive in-game item, and digital versions of the game’s artbook, soundtrack, and “Warm Flesh” novella.
The developer also released a new gameplay deep dive video to coincide with the beta going live. The video features game co-directors Jakub Stokalski and Lukasx Juszcyk chatting about the key differences between the sequel and its predecessor.
One of those key differences is that players can build entire districts at a time instead of just plopping down single buildings. Another is the deeper focus on societal elements. As the player’s city develops, members of the community may radicalize and form factions, seeking to influence the direction of the player’s decisions in developing the city.
Those community members will also sit on councils where they’ll have an actual say on things and vote to pass laws. Depending on how things play out, these laws can lead to conflict at home that the player will need to navigate.
Frostpunk 2 arrives on PC and PC Game Pass on July 25.
