Two years after it was announced, the Fallout 4 next-gen update is finally here, implementing brand-new performance and quality modes on Xbox Series X and PS5.
As with the Skyrim Anniversary Edition, the upgrade also comes with some free Creation Club items:
The current-gen update is completely free for those who own Fallout 4, but if you're still playing on older hardware, you'll receive a patch as well. It doesn't include all the bells and whistles of the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, but Bethesda has implemented stability improvements and quest fixes across the board.
Owners of Fallout 4 on PC will also receive the current-gen update, introducing widescreen and ultra-widescreen support across all storefronts as well as stability and bug fixes for the Microsoft and GOG versions.
The patch also makes the game compatible with Steam Deck and brings it to the Epic Games Store for the first time, so even more players can dive in following the hit TV show.
However, it's not all radioactive sunshine and green-tinted rainbows over on PC, as early reports of the update indicate that old problems are still very present. For instance, YouTuber TKs-Mantis immediately ran into the infamous lip-syncing issue in which NPCs speak faster than the dialogue plays, skipping chunks of context.
Others in the comments have reported running into crashes, such as the "Buffout4" error which has been plaguing the game since its launch in 2015. It might be a good idea to wait for some of those broken mods to update before diving in, eh?
In a region known as The Commonwealth, the sole survivor of Vault 111 must search for their missing child. Fallout 4 adds more to the series, including base building and an enhanced armor system, as well as an open world to traverse as you please.
