's long-awaited next-gen upgrade has finally been released on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5. In a post that coincided with the launch of the acclaimed live-action adaptation on Amazon Prime Video, Bethesda that the next-gen enhancements would include new Performance and Quality mode settings available across all platforms, as well as stability improvements and fixes. While there have been some issues surrounding the patch since its launch on April 25, it seems like it has fixed one notorious bug that's been plaguing players since 2017.
The new update fixes an issue concerning the domestic model Mister Handy robot, Codsworth. Upon leaving Vault 111, Codsworth is one of the first characters The Sole Survivor interacts with when revisiting their family home, with this interaction starting one of the first main quests in the game. Unfortunately, before the update, if players had downloaded items from the Creation Club -'s official modding platform, which is supported by Bethesda — a bug would initiate that would freeze Codsworth, essentially stopping players from progressing with the main story. Previously, if this bug was encountered, the only possible fix was to uninstall the game and any Creation Club items, which was extremely frustrating for players.
Codsworth is the robot butler used by The Sole Survivor’s family before the bombs fall in the prologue of the game, and players meet up with them after 200 years have passed. The fact that Codsworth was so dedicated to the family and their home that he waited for them to return and even attempted to clean the house following nuclear destruction to the point of near insanity made this reunion all the more heartbreaking, especially when he describes the abuse the locals hurled at him in that time.
The Sole Survivor and the other members of Vault 111 were put into cryosleep, offering players a glimpse at pre-war life.
