The Spice is undoubtedly in the air, with Part Two of Dennis Villeneuve's Dune film adaptation of Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi series now in theatres. Striking while the iron is hot, we also got a stunning gameplay trailer from Funcom for the upcoming survival MMO Dune: Awakening, which was revealed in August 2022 and prophesied to come to PS5 someday.
We see players engaging in incredibly Dune-like activities, speeding across endless deserts, evading sandworms, constructing bases and outposts, and struggling to survive in one of the harshest environments imaginable. That's a pretty compelling pitch for a survival game, but add to that the magic of the setting, and Funcom has a recipe for success with Dune: Awakening, provided they can deliver. Still no word on a release date or even window, but in the meantime, feast your eyes on the screenshots below:

Khayl Adam is the second-best video game journalist Australia has ever produced, and his ambitions of world domination have (thus far) been curbed by the twin siren songs of strategy games and CRPGs. He has always felt an affinity for the noble dachshund, the best kind of dog.
«ChatGPT, create me a sci-fi game with sand and worms». Looks ugly and generic. Nothing will ever beat the evocative power of the original Dune from Cryo Interactive, where everything just felt low-fi and uncivilized, I would say aboriginal and organic, like what you expect from exploring an unlivable desert.
After watching the incredible Dune: Part Two i'm itching for a Dune so yeah i shell check this out.
@Khayl, perhaps you mean Frank Herbert, rather than Brian Herbert who is the author's son.
One question: can we still fight the big worm?
Fight it? I want to ride one! I'm very interested in this!
I want to play good games. I hope it impresses and succeeds!
Hope it's good, I like the idea.
