Ever wondered how Wowhead can show data like NPC locations, items inside a container, or drop rates? All of that is thanks to the community using our Wowhead Client!
With WoW receiving more updates now than ever before between Patch 10.2.6, Cataclysm Classic, Season of Discovery, and soon The War Within, you can help the WoW community to learn more about the game.
Wowhead Client / Wowhead Looter
When you install the Wowhead Client it will locate all your World of Warcraft installations and install/update the addon Wowhead Looter. This addon collects anonymous data on interactions you have in Azeroth, from looting bosses to finding new NPCs, it stores that information in your addons folder.
After you stop playing, the Wowhead Client then sends that data to our servers to be processed.
Compiling your data with the data from everyone else who uploads their findings allows us to build additional information into our database.
This leads to us being able to see not just where you got a particular item, but where everyone else found it as well, and what the drop rate might be. We then get a good picture of which bosses, for example, might drop a particular piece of loot, and how rare that drop might be.
The more data we get, the more accurate these statistics. Using this data we can then share useful information through news articles and guides like these.
If you are not already using Wowhead Looter, please consider giving it a go. And if you already are, thank you! This site really is a community effort.
