You might think after more than a quarter of a century, Pokemon is running out of crossover ideas. You might also think that the out-there crossovers it does come with might not hit as hard as they used to. Wrong on both counts. Pokemon teamed up with the Netherlands' Van Gogh Museum in 2023, and the products available through it, particularly the Grey Felt Hat Pikachu promo card, caused a miniature riot in the museum's gift shop.
Now that the dust has settled and Pokemon has printed so many copies of the card that people are no longer willing to sell their own grandma for the chance to get one, its attention has returned to an item that might have been ever harder to find than the free card that was supposed to come with it - the Van Gogh Pikachu plush. Modeled after the way Pikachu looks on the sought-after card, the plush is back in stock after selling out almost immediately last year.
You can currently pick up a Van Gogh Pikachu plush at the Pokemon Center through the link in the box below. It's been 12 minutes at the time of typing this since people started to notice that the plush had been restocked. That hopefully means either the rush for it isn't nearly as intense as when it was first released, or Pokemon has finally started to learn lessons from situations like the Van Gogh Museum crossover and there is more than enough stock of the plush to go around.
Pikachu has cosplayed as a lot of things in plush form over the years, and you can now add Vincent Van Gogh to that list. Part of Pokemon's collaboration with Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum which also includes some of the artist's paintings reimagined with a Pokemon twist.
As well as being modeled after Van Gogh's famous self-portrait, the Pikachu plush is also holding a little paintbrush and self-portrait of its own.
