The second closed beta test for Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link is finally live and it brings with it several new cutscenes that give us our best idea yet of what the game is actually about.
Although the wait for Kingdom Hearts 4 news has felt like an incredibly long one, it's arguably been slower-going for anyone who was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, the next big mobile game in the series. Announced at the same time as KH4, Missing Link was said to have a closed beta test in 2022, something that didn't end up happening.
After that, Missing Link was basically missing in action until later into 2023 when it finally reemerged with a closed beta test for iOS users. That first test was very minimal, though, and only had a few cutscenes, a character creator, and a glimpse into some of the gameplay systems like being able to roam the Astral Dimension to fight Heartless.
When it was revealed that Missing Link would be getting a second closed beta test this month, many fans wondered if it would have anything new or if it'd just be the same content repeated. I managed to get access to both closed tests and can confirm that there's a whole lot of new content in the latest beta, especially when it comes to the story.
Things are mostly the same in the first few missions of the test, with your protagonist waking up on the shore and running into Remus, a red-haired character who introduces you to the world. After you defeat Darkside, though, there are several new cutscenes that give a good idea of what Missing Link is all about.
The first cutscene has you and Remus walking through Scala Ad Caelum, where you see a statue of Ephemer and seem to remember him, furthering the idea that your protagonist has the heart of the one you played as in Union X. After that, we see scientists in a lab studying anomalies, who also seem to have a problem with Scala's Baroque Society, which is the one that Remus belongs to.
