Developer Wolf & Wood, in collaboration with publisher RapidEyeMovers, has announced a new non-VR version of C Smash VRS for the PS5. The game is titled Cosmic Smash VRS – New Dimension, and it is slated for release in late summer of this year. Owners of the PSVR 2 version of C-Smash VRS will receive the New Dimension update for free.
Cosmic Smash VRS – New Dimension will be a third person game, rather than first person. Along with the modes found in C-Smash VRS, like co-op and versus modes, new updates will be coming to both versions of Cosmic Smash. There will be cross platform leaderboards included as part of this release too.
“I fell in love with Cosmic Smash back in 2001 and have been lucky to get SEGA’s blessing to bring it into VR,”says RapidEyeMovers Director Jorg Tittel, “By expanding C-Smash VRSto PlayStation 5, we’ll be going full circle. It’s essentially a whole new game and we have some surprises in store which we’ll reveal closer to release.”
“It’s exciting because the focus is on one thing, how it feels,” states Wolf & Wood founder, Ryan Bousfield. “We already have loads of game modes and features, so for us, this is all about giving the player that VR presence; but through the analogue sticks of their controller.”
In our C-Smash VRS review, Stefan wrote, “With the simplicity of squash and block smashing at its core, C-Smash VRS is a virtual racket sport delight. The bat and ball physics are tricky to master, but stick to the easier Zen mode, or play with a friend in multiplayer and co-op, and there’s plenty of joy to be had here.”
