While it's true that the free PS Plus game announcement most often happens on the last Wednesday of the previous announcement, what really determines when the games are announced is the first Tuesday of the following month. The first Tuesday of May is Tuesday, May 2, which meant that subscribers shouldn't have expected the free PS Plus game announcement to come until Wednesday, May 1, which is exactly what happened.
Some PS Plus subscribers had to wait longer than expected, but the free PS Plus games for May 2024 have officially been confirmed. Starting Tuesday, May 7, PS Plus subscribers can claim EA Sports FC 24, Ghostrunner 2, Tunic, and Destiny 2: Lightfall. The addition of Destiny 2: Lightfall comes as a surprise, as the free PS Plus games usually only consist of three games in any given month. Regardless, the lineup seems pretty solid, and it's likely that most PS Plus subscribers will be happy with what's in store.
For those unfamiliar with the free PS Plus games for May 2024, EA Sports FC 24 is a soccer game and effectively the latest installment in the FIFA franchise, just without the branding. Ghostrunner 2 is a first-person cyberpunk game that was released last year to mostly positive reviews. Tunic is a Zelda-inspired action-adventure game that also incorporates some Soulslike elements. And finally, Destiny 2: Lightfall is the latest expansion for Bungie's FPS/MMO hybrid, setting the stage for the new expansion that's set to drop next month.
