Unfortunately for those subscribed to the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus, it appears as though Horizon Zero Dawn is leaving the service on Tuesday, May 21. Unlike the free games that make up the Essential tier of PlayStation Plus and can be kept as long as one stays subscribed, the PlayStation Plus Extra games are rotated in and out of availability, ala Netflix or Xbox Game Pass.
New games are added to PS Plus Extra every month, ensuring subscribers always have something fresh to play. The new PS Plus Extra games for May 2024 have yet to be revealed, but fans should find out more in a couple of weeks' time. It's unclear exactly why Horizon Zero Dawn is leaving the PS Plus Extra lineup on May 21, considering Sony owns the game, but this wouldn't be the first time that a PlayStation game was removed from PS Plus Extra.
As some may recall, Insomniac's Spider-Man was removed from PS Plus Extra previously as well. Like with Spider-Man's removal, Sony is unlikely to provide any explanation as to why it's decided to pull Horizon Zero Dawn from PS Plus Extra. Regardless, anyone that wants to keep playing Horizon Zero Dawn will have to purchase it once it's removed from PS Plus Extra.
