Players new to the world of may believe they have to join the fascistic Brotherhood of Steel to gain access to their very own Vertibird, but veterans want everyone to know there's another solution. When it comes to moving around the Commonwealth, the most efficient way to reach one's destination is to simply pop open the map and fast-travel to any discovered location. Unfortunately, that's not exactly the most immersive method so for Sole Survivors looking to embed themselves in the Wasteland or happen to be playing on Survival, the Vertibird is the next best option.
Posted to Reddit by user Senecatwo,the veteran shared some advice for newcomers on how to gain access to Vertibird travel without joining the Brotherhood of Steel, one of the game's more prominent (and sinister) factions.
They note that most factions actually have the power to provide the Sole Survivor with Vertibird lifts after they complete the main campaign; these just happen to be captured vehicles rather than «officially licensed.» Sure, the fastest route is to join the BoS, but for those who may disagree with their ideologies, it's an opportunity to not miss out on the fun.

Back when launched in 2015, many players expressed disappointment that Vertibirds were such a limited feature given that they simply provide the Sole Survivor with a lift around the Commonwealth, functioning as a slower form of Fast Travel. While that may be true in the most simple sense, the vehicle does grant some additional bonuses such asthe ability to mark points of interest while moving over the map, something that can't be done with fast travel. Vertibirds can also be used when over-encumbered, meaning players can pick up as much loot as they want.
