Fallout 5 may release sooner than anticipated, thanks to the smashing success of the Amazon Prime Video TV show, judging from some recent comments from Phil Spencer.
Speaking with IGN in an interview conducted after yesterday's Xbox Games Showcase, the Xbox head talked about the post-apocalyptic franchise, saying that the TV show has been amazing for them and that Bethesda's director Todd Howard is looking at the plans on what he's doing. While Phil Spencer couldn't say more on the matter, he said that Todd Howard has recognized the TV show's success on his own and is thinking through what that means, suggesting that plans for a new entry in the series may have been sped up by the show's success.
"For us specifically, Fallout's (TV) been amazing, and yeah, Todd's kind of looking at the plans on what he's doing. I'm not going to get into it, but I'll say Todd has recognized the success on his own and is thinking through what that means."
The fact that Bethesda may be accelerating its Fallout 5 plans isn't surprising, considering how all recent entries in the series saw a massive boost in player numbers following the launch of the TV Show, with Fallout 76 recently passing the 20 million players milestone. Hopefully, the studio won't rush the game and will deliver an experience that will be on par with the rest of the series.
